Eight Men, Four Women
~ Song
Annotation
According to the liner notes to Back to the River, this song was written by Melvin Carter:
"Soul music is full of stories of talents who failed to get the break that would have brought them fame and fortune. Melvin Carter is such an artist; his career hamstrung by the deal he made with Don Robey of Duke-Peacock Records which required him to sell his songs to Robey for a paltry fee. 'Eight Men, Four Women' and 'Ace of Spades' are two Carter hits his friend O.V. Wright recorded, with the composer credit going to Deadric Malone--Robey's alias." (see page scan)
