Com que voz

Annotation

Recorded over two nights (7 and 8 January 1969) but only released in March 1970.

The mystery of what happened during the 14 months between recording "Com que voz" and its launch has been resolved almost by accident. Virginia Maria Pereira, who in 69/70 worked in the graphics department of Valentim de Carvalho, adds a piece, perhaps decisive, to the puzzle: This album was delayed many months! We wanted it to have a special cover, many typography presses were dealt with, budgets discussed, we tried to have the name of Amália in relief, which turned out to be impossible. And the record failed Christmas '69? Perhaps, and if that was the case, it went to the next Easter ...
"When I went to talk to the lady of the graphical department of Valentim de Carvalho, I was looking to know who had made the album cover, which still today (the author) is unknown, despite the possibility of someone named Artur Henriques" recounts David Ferreira. "However, the moment I speak about "Com que voz" - she tells me right away that it had been delayed because my uncle (Rui Valentim de Carvalho the editor) was so fond of the record that he wanted the cover to be released with (a) sunken stop*, and so he went from press to press until he gave up", he adds.

Until they came to this conclusion several hypotheses have been put: "Although it was thought that Amalia's sister's illness had contributed to the delay, but this problem only led to the cancellation of some shows for a few weeks. Also, at the time publishers were targets of an investigation because they were accused of a pricing cartel, but I thought it did not make much sense to postpone the record because of that", he recalls.
