Most of these tracks do not have an actual titles; some were created on the spur of the moment when recorded, many are simply untitled traditional Inuit songs. The descriptive text used here for unofficial titles is as listed, in various Inuit languages mixed with English, in the release booklet.
"Inngerutit" means drum-song in official Kalaallisut, and is used to describe traditional Inuit drum-songs consisting of one vocalist singing and keeping beat with a single drum of caribou skin and wood.
A "uaajeerneq" is a role play; a uaajeerneq-song would have normally been performed with the singer dressed as a grotesque, with a stick in the mouth to distort the voice.
Tracks 1-29 are performed in various local dialects of Kalaallisut.
Tracks 30-55 are performed in various dialects of Kalaallisut and (Canadian) Inuktitut (including Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, Inuvialuktun, Inuinnaqtun, and Labradorimiutut).
Tracks 1-12 are from East Greenland (Kulusuk, Kuummiut, Sermiligaaq, Tasiilaq, and Tiniteqilaaq) tribes.
Tracks 13-21 are from South Greenland (Alluitsup Paa, Ammassivik, Illorpaat, Itilleq, Nanortalik, Umiivik) tribes.
Track 22 is from a Central-West Greenland (Aasiast) tribe.
Tracks 23-29 are from South-Eastern Greenland Uummannaq-Upernavik Fjord (Illorsuit, Ikerasak, Kangersuatsiaq, Kullorsuaq, Qaarsut, Uummannatsasq) tribes.
Tracks 30-35, 37-43, 46-52 are from North Greenland (Dundas, Qaanaaq, Qeqertarsuaq, Siorapaluk) tribes.
Tracks 36, 44, 45, 53-55 are from Canadian (Cape Dorset, Coppermine, and Pond Inlet) tribes.
Track 24 is performed by three anonymous Inuit women and three anonymous Inuit men .
Track 27 is performed by an anonymous Inuit woman.
Tracks were originally recorded on wax glader cylinders, laquer discs, wirerecorders, tape recorders, and cassette recorders, depending upon the technology of the time.
