Annotation
RECENTLY, IN PARIS, a showmanly group comprising three young men from Israel provided the season's most exciting television, radio and night club success.
It was the Trio Aravah, fresh from the Biblical land, with a singing act unlike any other ever seen-or heard-in France. And thus did three talented young Israelians get their first
big break. Fresh, youthful, wild, exciting - these are the adjectives used to describe the harmony of Arie Lavi, Simon Israeli and Zvi Borodovski. They met in Israel in 1956 at the Hacameri Chamber Theatre. Between acting rehearsals, and with Zvi accompanying on guitar, the three men discovered a rare unity of voices and philosophies. They searched for new songs and new composers. After a year, the Trio Aravah was enjoying immense popularity throughout Israel. Today their songs-and their records-are heard everywhere in the bright, young new nation. And the Trio has enjoyed great success in France as well.
Lavi was born in Germany, moved to Israel as a child, was a fighter with the Israeli army in the Sinai campaign and in 1956 starred in the first Israelian motion picture, Hill 24 Doesn't Answer.
Israeli, the bass singer, was born in Poland. He, too, went through the Sinai battles as an army fighter. He is popular in Israel not only as a singer but as an actor and radio performer whose specialty is reading poetry. ambitions to eventually become an operatic singer. He also has served with. honor in the army, appeared in various productions at the Hacameri Chamber Theatre and gained fame as a guitarist.
Israel Today was recorded in Paris, in the finest and most modern studios in France, during the Trio Aravah's 1957 personal appearance tour. There is nothing quite like this music available on long-play records in North America today,
The lyrics are sung in Hebrew, the language of Israel. "We of the Trio Aravah," says Borodovski proudly, "attempt to reflect the spirit of Israel today, an Israel that is rapidly developing its own culture. We merely represent the thousands of younger Israelians who are creating art, music and literature that may truly be called Israelian."
The music reflects this dedication.
