Disciple (The RG Jones Sessions - black vinyl)

~ Release by Damian Wilson (see all versions of this release, 8 available)

Annotation

The original CD release of Disciple brought together recordings from three locations: RG Jones Studio (Wimbledon, London), Abbey Road Studio One (St. John’s Wood, London), and St. Edward the Confessor (Sutton Park, Guildford). Each space had its own unique sonic character. In order to achieve a unified sound across the album, compromises had to be made. The tracks recorded at RG Jones Studio formed the backbone of the album but had lost some of their original depth and nuance in the process.

Upon finding the original studio tapes last year, I was struck by how much life and clarity remained in those sessions. With the 25th anniversary of the album on the horizon, the timing felt right to return to the material and give it the attention it deserved. The tapes were carefully restored and transferred. Working alongside producer Andrew Holdsworth, we chose to revisit and in some cases include previously unreleased alternate mixes. The collection has been newly remastered by Denis Blackham, who also mastered the original album.

Now, for the very first time, The RG Jones Sessions are being released; sounding just as we heard it back in the autumn of 2000.
