Rock Candy (with opening "Front Room" announcement)
~ Recording by “Brother” Jack McDuff
Annotation
This recording originated on the Jack McDuff album "Live!", where the liner notes allude to the place of recording as the Front Room jazz club in Newark, NJ. As described by Prestige producers in a subsequent Prestige compilation, however, the recording was actually made in a New York studio before a live studio audience. See booklet page 76 and page 77. This studio recording, timing ~ 6:42 starts with an announcement claiming that recording is being made in the "Front Room" jazz club in Newark, NJ. Hear for example here. An edit of this recording appears on some releases, where the initial announcement of about 15 seconds has been excised from the beginning, and some applause removed at the end.
