gopichant (Indian drum-zither)
~ String instrument
Description
For the one stringed lute also called ektar/ektara, see tumbi.
For the similar looking instrument with only one spoke, see tun tuna.
Not to be confused with the ekatantri veena, an ancient Indian monochord.
It has a small, round or trapeze shaped body of wood or coconut with a membrane at the bottom. Attached to the sides is a neck of split bamboo from which a single string is suspended and attached to the membrane.
